           WALTER SKULSKI ART GALLERY

A generous contribution from the Estate of Walter Skulski in 1984 enabled the Polish Cultural Foundation to transform an ordinary room virtually having a glass wall of northern exposure enviously sought by creative artists into what has become one of the more prestigious art galleries in the State of New Jersey.

Exhibited are local, national and internationally renowned artists creating in all media. Since its inaugural exhibit in 1984 more than 160 exhibits have taken place at the Skulski Gallery. Some of the featured art works were sculptures by Lubomir Tomaszewski, Piotr Woronec and Andrzej Pitynski; paintings by Alojzy Balcerzak, Nikifor, Jun Guang Yu, Aleksandra K. Nowak, tapestries by Nina Kedzierska, play-bills by Rafal Olbinski, graphic art by Jan Lebenstein, collages by Marcello Truppa and group shows hosted by such as The Guild of American Papercutters and the Woodbridge Art Group.

Annually 10 floor shows are scheduled at the gallery with each season extending from September through July. Although the focus of attention may be to artists of Polish ancestry, talented artists of other ethnic backgrounds have and are exhibited.

The Skulski Gallery is under the direction of Aleksandra K. Nowak, an exhibiting professional artist, and is open to the public from 11:00 AM to 9:30 PM, Monday through Friday and from 10:00 AM to 2:30 PM on Saturdays.

Nowak, gobeliny Niny Kędzierskiej, plakaty Rafała Olbińskiego, grafikę Jana Lebensteina, kolaże Marcello Truppa. Były też wystawy grupowe, m.in. artystów stowarzyszonych w The Guild of American Papercutters oraz Woodbridge Art Group.

DIANA DZIEKAN-SKUZA, was born in 1977 in Dabrowa Tarnowska, Poland.  She came to New York along with her husband in 2000.  She graduated from Business College and even though she had always felt attracted to music and the arts – especially photography.  From her childhood she still remembers tons of black and white pictures piling at her home, taken and developed by her talented father.  Diana’s main interest is portraiture, but she also photographs landscapes and architecture. “I do not have any favorite places where I like to take the pictures, I just take my camera anywhere I go and wait for the opportunity to take a good shot”, says Diana.  One of her photos has been recently published at the Polish Daily News, “Nowy Dziennik”.  Diana is a member of the Polish-American Photographic Club and, besides this very exhibit that is her debut showcasing her work, on June 14 she is going to participate in “Salon 2008” – a group exhibit organized by the Club at the Polish consulate General in Manhattan.

MARCIN SKUZA, born in Poland in 1976 lives and works in New York with his wife Diana since 2000.  In spite of getting a degree in Building Technology, photography has always been his passion.  Marcin’s family have always praised his artistic works and being under influence by one of the best polish pastelists Ryszard Milek, who gave him much encouragement to exhibit.  At his first group exhibition his photos received a lot of attention and that made a good start to his artistic career – other exhibitions soon followed.  “ I love taking black and white photographs, they are adding deepness and that special climate to a photographed scene.  However, I don’t hesitate to take sepia or even color photographs, which are not so popular between artists.  My favorite theme is nature, but I also like portraiture of people.  In my works you are going to see a lot of rays of sunshine as the sun shines straight at the viewer through the branches of trees, buildings and snow dunes…”, says Marcin.  One of his photos was published in an album titled “A glance at the past” and he donated four of his other works to “The De Rosa Foundation”, where proceeds go to the cancer research and prevention.  Marcin is a member of the Polish-American Photographic Club.

The Polish Cultural Foundation, a non-profit organization since 1976, is located at 177 Broadway, Clark, New Jersey just of exit 135 from the Garden State Parkway.
